John Grenville Stezaker (born 1949), is an English conceptual artist. His work is surreal in tone and is often made using collage and the appropriation of pre-existing images such as postcards, film stills, and publicity photographs. Art historianJulian Stallabrass said, "The contrast at the heart of these works [by Stezaker] is not between represented and real, but between the unknowing primitives of popular culture, and the conscious, ironic artist and viewer of post-modern images.
Joe Castro is an accomplished Philadelphia based collage artist, musician (The Lift Up), oil painter and graphic designer. His paintings and collages have been shown in galleries and art spaces across the United States, Canada, Italy and the United Kingdom. The band toured the states, and opened for bands such as The Strokes, The Libertines, Nada Surf, BJM, The Make-Up and Arthur Lee & Love. I love how his work explodes from a centre point, giving life to his collages, as if the subjects are bursting out. They look very carefully put together, something i would find hard to emmulate in my own work, as i find I am more expressive and bold in my way of collaging, but this is something I could at least attempt.
Chamorro has a Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1995, he worked as a graphic designer for several studios and agencies, until he set up his own studio in 2005, where he develops communication projects for different clients. He combines his work as a designer with teaching. As a graphic design teacher he provides creativity and design workshops, both for adults and children. Besides designing and teaching, he develops artistic projects, to date mainly collages.
Each collage is extremely simple, yet I find this is what I like most about his work, compared to the other collage artists I have found. He has a clear point for each collage he makes and focuses on showing it in a simple way, which is visually very graphic and pleasing.
